History of Jubilee
Jubilee was founded in 1976 and by 1979 fell under the leadership of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber hoped to raise interest in the many cultural, historical and recreational opportunities in the city and to restore a sense of pride in Montgomery's downtown area for tourism development. During the 15 years under the Chamber's leadership, the festival grew from a modest 1,500 to 50,000 patrons. Jubilee's success resulted from the cooperative efforts of the City of Montgomery, the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, businesses, corporations, volunteers and patrons from the tri-county area.
In 1993, Jubilee was incorporated into a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and developed the following mission statement: The mission of Jubilee CityFest is to become a premier tourism attraction by creating a family weekend festival, featuring entertainment, cultural events, visual and performing arts, sporting events, and educational children's activities that enhance the quality of life in the City of Montgomery, Alabama and surrounding areas.
